It’s summer and it’s been weird.
Amongst other things I have been writing (or trying to) everyday. I have, ugh, three pieces in the works and I’ve really only actively been working on one of them. The one that I started last fall that is blatantly stolen from a song my Fella wrote and I thought was wonderfully romance novelesque. Its not turning out so much to be a “Romance Novel” as it is just a story about a dude who’s world has fallen apart and, amongst other things, has a crush on his neighbor. I’m trying very hard to get the basic outline of the story out, but I want it to be more than a romance, you know? I want it to be about John and about his journey and also a little bit about Madelyn and what she’s been doing with herself.
Ultimately it is about Love. It’s about all sorts of love, but love nonetheless. And it is about John and Madelyn falling in love. It’s about a couple finding each other, finding their other half. It’s about finding that one person who can give you purpose, even if you’re not saving the world. It’s about finding someone who makes you feel like you can accomplish anything and makes you want to pursue your dreams because you feel like you can’t fail.
I suppose that’s a whole lot loftier than I have been thinking.
Because it’s important to be an independent person who knows how to stand on his or her own feet and doesn’t need another person to ensure personal happiness, but it’s nice to know that you have a partner, an equal to give support when needed. And that’s what this story is about. As much as it’s about a dude wanting to sleep with his neighbor.
