“It’s Baz Luhrmann: I hope there’s an unnecessary song+dance number.”
I wrote this as a joke on the Book Riot piece about the new movie poster for Baz Luhrmann’s new film version of The Great Gatsby (with Leo DiCaprio???) and someone wrote “It’s Baz Luhrmann. It must be good :-)”. So I followed that up with my above comment.
But the more I think about it, the more I can’t help feeling that this is exactly what The Great Gatsby needs. Not by Jay – that would be like if Mr. Darcy had had a number in Bride and Prejudice (thank god that scene was cut) – but maybe Jordan or Tom’s girlfriend could have a number to liven up a party scene. Or maybe Nick could narrate in song. Daisy could have a scene where she flits from person to person like a coked out bumble bee singing 99 Luftballons.
